Dr. Valerie Winfrey O.D.
Dr. Valerie Winfrey was born and raised in San Antonio. She attended the University of Incarnate Word where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology. She then went on to the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry where she received her Doctorate of Optometry as a part of their first graduating class. Dr. Winfrey has been a part of the optometry field for 12 years; first as a certified paraoptometric technician, and now as a Therapeutic Optometrist. Dr. Winfrey is a Certified Glaucoma Specialist, but also focuses on the diagnosis and management of other eye conditions and diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, and cataracts. She also enjoys fitting the various types of contact lenses including toric lenses, multifocal lenses, and monovision lenses. In her spare time, Dr. Winfrey enjoys singing, hiking, and rooting for the San Antonio Spurs and Texas Rangers.
Dr. Denise Tran O.D.
Dr. Denise Tran was born in Portland, Oregon and raised in Hillsboro, Oregon. She graduated Cum Laude from Pacific University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. She then moved to Houston, Texas where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry. While attending school, she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society, Students’ Texas Optometric Association, and American Optometric Student Association. During her clinical internships in San Antonio, Texas, she trained in fitting various types of contact lenses and in the treatment and management of diseases including glaucoma, diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, macular degeneration, and dry eye syndrome. She also participated in the co-management of cataract and refractive surgeries. When she is not seeing patients, Dr. Tran enjoys watching movies, trying new foods, traveling, and spending time with her fiancé and their dog, Cookie.
Dr. Gladdis Thomas O.D.
Having spent majority of her childhood in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Thomas moved to San Antonio to pursue optometry at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Optometry. After earning her Doctorate Degree in Therapeutic Optometry, she decided to stay in San Antonio to evade the frosty winters and enjoy the beautiful warmth of South Texas. She attained her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from The Ohio State University. Dr. Thomas is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society – with a lifetime commitment to leadership and service in the community. She is also a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. With experience in hospital settings as well as private practice, Dr. Thomas brings to the clinic her expertise of ocular disease management – from dry eye syndrome to advanced glaucoma. She received her CRT (Corneal Refractive Therapy) certification to treat nearsightedness by slowing its progression via use of Rigid Gas Permeable lenses. When not practicing optometry, Dr. Thomas enjoys leisurely reading, hiking, gastronomy, as well as exploring art, music, and the world.
Dr. Tuong Dang O.D.
Dr. Tuong Dang has special interests in ocular diseases, contact lenses, pediatric, and pre-operative care of cataracts. Her training began at Rhodes College in TN, where she not only received her Bachelor of Science in Biology but began her career as an optometrist assistant. Subsequently, she completed her Doctorate of Optometry at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry after rotating at the Veterans Affair Medical Center and at the Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA. With her diverse background, Dr. Dang treats a plethora of optometric issues, such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. She is incredibly happy to call San Antonio her new home and looks forward to providing comprehensive eye care here. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and playing with her dog.
